The intersection of Upper Big Springs Road at John Lovelace/Callaway Church Road in Troup County was causing safety concerns due to its large skew angle and high approach speeds. The County determined these unsafe conditions at the intersection warranted a traffic study. Foresite Group was awarded this project by proposing a unique low-cost solution that no other firm considered. Instead of designing an expensive roundabout or new roadway design, our team analyzed the intersection and concluded that driver risks could be mitigated by simply adding better signage and improving road marking. Our team performed an intersection safety audit (ISA) and warrant analysis to verify these conclusions. Preliminary alternatives were developed hand-in-hand with County staff in a collaborative environment including a field visit, team workshop, final report, and presentation of recommended actions to the Board of Commissioners.
