The City of Jonesboro, Georgia envisioned developing an area adjacent to Lee Park in which municipal offices and public actives could be convened. The new two-story Jonesboro City Center building, designed by Nelson Company, uniquely accommodates the new City Hall, Courthouse, Police Department, Probation offices, Community Room around a double-height atrium lobby. The east side includes a landscape and hardscape plaza that connects to Lee Park. In addition to providing municipal offices, the City will provide the community with a centralized location for community engagement and activities.
What Is Foresite Group’s Role In The Jonesboro City Center? In 2019, Foresite Group partnered with Wakefield Beasley & Associates, a Nelson Company, to be part of a team tasked with designing a city center for Jonesboro, GA. Foresite Group is providing site development design including stormwater management, utilities, hardscape, landscaping, fire accessibility, and more. The site was configured to overlook the Lee Park’s amphitheater providing a viewing area for concerts and similar events. In order to meet county and city stormwater requirements, three bioretention areas, two underground detention systems, and a proprietary water quality device were utilized in the design. ADA accessibility was additionally incorporated in the site’s design to ensure the city center can be enjoyed by all.
Foresite Group also worked as a consultant for Nelson on this project. Our team included civil engineers and landscape architects providing efficient and seamless coordination between the two disciplines. In addition to our internal collaboration, Foresite Group helped to coordinate with city staff personnel, utility providers, and more in order to provide a cooperative design production. The project is anticipated to be completed in early 2022.
