SCOPE

Foresite Group provided site and foundations design and permitting services for two new continuous kilns on a 4.56-acre site within the West Fraser facility in Opelika, Alabama. The site was mass graded and a new detention pond was required. One challenge our team overcame on this project is the soil below the original planned location of the kilns consisted of 25 to 30 feet of organic material, not suitable for building construction. Our team was able to adjust the design to avoid the worst of the unsuitable soils, but the project still required around 26,000 cubic yards of structural fill to be hauled in. Because of this project, the mill added up to 15 new jobs in addition to expanding capacity.
