SCOPE

The Foundation for Louisiana and the City of New Orleans sponsored a program to create an institutional fiber optic network to serve City-owned and operated buildings and facilities. Currently dependent on traditional service from two different local exchange carriers, the City of New Orleans often experiences full outages, shutting down all official communications. In addition to establishing a redundant high-speed network to secure the City’s connectivity, this new infrastructure would be utilized by a host of other local agencies to establish a “smart” approach to improving day to day activities like traffic control, security camera systems, weather cameras and environmental sensors, utility monitoring and switching, and public Wi-Fi. Foresite Group is supporting this program through a market assessment, a high-level design of the institutional network, and recommending business model and governance plans.
